Sami Zayn left the Scotiabank Arena to a hostile reception following the August 21 edition of Friday Night SmackDown in Toronto, Ontario. After the show went off the air, the Canadian was met with loud “Sami sucks” chants as he made his way out of the building.
WWE released footage of the moment, showing Zayn visibly bothered by the crowd’s reaction. He pointed at fans in the stands and fired back at them while heading to the back. Over 15,000 tickets had been distributed for the show.
The reaction came just minutes after Zayn cost Kevin Owens the Undisputed WWE Championship.
During the main event, with the referee down, Zayn emerged from the crowd and attacked CM Punk. He initially helped Owens, then handed him the title belt to use on Punk. Owens refused, making clear he didn’t want to win the championship that way.
Zayn wouldn’t accept it and cracked Owens with the Undisputed WWE Championship. Punk capitalized, hit the GTS and picked up the win.
After the match, Zayn attacked both Punk and Owens with the title belt and declared he was delivering justice for the championship he believes was stolen from him.
